Ocean meets the Sea
Ocean meets the Sea 2
This series was inspired by the commissioned piece of long, vertical panels. My process involves a foundation of screenprinted line drawings that form the structure underneath all of my work. I’ve been working from the same 15 drawings, however no series ever comes out the same. I’ve been playing with new pigments and ranges of depth in those pigments and varying transparency, sheen and color saturation. Building each series and layers that evolve is reminiscent of the butterfly effect where every action has an impact and ripple on what is surrounding and what comes next but in a very large when when zooming out.
I created to these panels together but intend/ed for them hold their own as single, individual pieces. While creating this series, I was listening to a series of podcasts about environmental discoveries and relationships to weather patterns and human, evolution and technologic histories. Hurricanes and the documentation of such through information found in tree rings. Apparently, a lull in the sun’s allowed all sorts of human discoveries, exploitations and revolutions to emerge and evolve. Zooming out, these human histories, evolutions and global tragedies all recorded in the life of a tree and the stories it has to share about us.
